A versatile and talented multi-instrumental songwriter, Rory (aka Rosy, Rortex, Myshyte) has taken various ear-pleasing forms for over twenty years as a solo artist, band member and session collaborator. Having explored such styles as folk, roots, rock, reggae, prog, punk, soul, jazz and blues on the guitar, ukulele, drums, bass and voice, Rory’s current solo offering is live loops of meditative trance-inducing ambience on guitar. Although quite capable of epic ten minute drum solos, Rory’s holistic understanding of music urges to hold back and serve the song. Rory also has a few hidden talents, ask for a fart-hands beatboxing demonstration!

Hug Dealers

I ❤ HUGS! Each fortnight I host a private hug party, I facilitate cuddle workshops, I bring a cuddle space to festivals and parties. The original plan was to offer touch therapy services. Basically, people would pay me to hug them. Eventually I would have a database of cuddlers to pimp out. I never opened it up to the public yet because I guess I’m a little scared of dealing with strangers or something… Plus now I’m using the brand for my theme camp, and in order to comply with the Burning Man principal of decommodification, this is not a profit driven enterprise. It’s a hug driven pile of purring kittens!

So yeah, Hug Dealers is now a theme camp, replacing Tinyville (below)

Tinyville

My theme camp (now known as Hug Dealers, see above!). Debuted at Burning Seed 2014, has also been to Confest a few times. We simply provide a nice cushy space to use for small workshop, but mainly hugs. Originally the intention was to embody and honour the growing tiny house movement, I brought my half-built house trailer along to several events where it was used as a stage, but that project has since been abandoned so Tinyville has kind of ‘lost purpose’… Still lots of people love it so I’ll try to keep the flame alive for them ❤ Update: I’ve passed on the tiny house torch but still love tiny houses and all they represent.

The Pleasure Trove

An immersive cabaret production led by Jules Sutherland, for which I am the musical director/guitarist. We did a run of shows last year with a full band and it was so great we can’t wait to bring it back for another round later this year. In the mean time Jules and I do guest feature slots at events like SteamPhunk.
